Protect your family and dispose your medications safely on Saturday, April 28 for National Drug Take Back Day. Using expired medications can be harmful to your family, which is why the Drug Enforcement Administration gives the public an opportunity to dispose of unwanted and/or expired prescription drugs in a FREE and anonymous way. To find a collection site near you, visit the DEA website.
Why it's important to safely dispose of medications
One of the most important reasons is to prevent the illegal use of unused medications and to minimize the potential negative impact on the environment. Simply tossing them in the trash could put trash handlers at risk of exposure if the drug encountered their skin or if they breathed in the dust. Flushing pills and other medications down the toilet can end up polluting our waters and ecosystem. Medicine take-back programs are the best way to dispose of unwanted medicine.
